[quote="StudentGuru"]Here is a quick list of the top international financial aid websites that you should be visiting if you are looking for financial aid to studying abroad: International Student Loan Please note that as of 5 September 2008, the International Student Loan company through Doral Bank has "paused" their international student loan program. This might very well prevent me from completing my PhD in England (I'm American). Has anyone any advice regarding this?

Thanks for your help, Keith. My problem is that the Sallie Mae Tuition Answer loan will not exceed Cost of Attendence and I owe my university for previous terms. If get a zero balance in a few weeks, they will cancel my student status forever. Might you know of a loan that will cover past debt as well? The International Student Loan company said they did, which is why losing them has been such a loss.

Trema, I'm not aware of any other student loans for US students enrolled at foreign schools. I do think these loans will be available again soon, but it could continue to be tough to borrow more than the current cost of attendance. One idea -- you could get a line of credit to pay off your past due balance and tide you over for a while. I think the student loan market will rebound and you may be able to take out a student loan to replace the line of credit at some point. Perhaps not ideal but better than not completing a PhD program. Here's the Student Loan Network's line of credit: http://www.studentplatinum.com/loans/line-of-credit.phpGood luck, let me know what you end up doing -- Keith

Are there currently any banks or organizations out there that will allow you to borrow more than the cost of tuition? I'm from the UK but have a co-signer in the USA.
Thanks

Hi all!
Have you tried Wachovia bank? I talked to them last week about a loan as an international student and they said it can be done with a US co-signer. I haven't applied yet because all this situation with everyone stopping the loans worries me a bit. But if I want to make my "study in the US" dream come true, I guess I'll have to risk at one point. I'll let you know if they really give me a loan.

Are there any institutions that offer funding, whether it be in the form of a loan or grant, for international students that aren't from the US & aren't planning to study in US? I'm having a hard time finding one...Thanks for the info in advance!
