hello sir,
i am currently pursuing my b.tech degree from dhirubhai ambani institute, gandhinagar. i will receive my permanent residentship in may,2010 itself. by april,2010 i would complete second year of my undergraduate course. so i was thinking of taking a sophomore transfer to some university in u.s. , in california most probably. my toefl score is 108 and sat score is 2070. so i had a few questions regarding this:

1) if i do the credit evaluation of my courses from wes(world education society), will this evaluation work for all universities in which i apply.
2) under what section of transfer i will come ....international student transfer or national student transfer.
3)will i get any scholarship or aid on my toefl or sat score.
4) and from your experience can you tell me what average time i will have to waste to work for all the courses for which i don't receive credits.
5)i have my cpi for two years a little above 8. so is this cpi good for getting a transfer admission.

waiting eagerly for your reply.

Hi mr.zedde18,

I still haven’t done so much about this. I haven’t even taken the TOEFL exam yet, the only thing I did, was contact the university I want to apply and told them about my situation. They told me everything that we already know…that they will need an evaluation from an accredited association, so they can eliminate/transfer the classes. For them to evaluate the credits, we will have to send transcripts, and degrees if applicable.
They also told me that since I will be holding a resident visa (like you) I will be able to apply as a traditional student (American citizen). I will only need a TOEFL certificate, (since this are only requested for foreign students) since my native language is not English.
Well, I googled some Credential Services, and the best ones ( good services and good price) are:

aacrao.org/international/foreignEdCred.cfm

evaluationservice.net

WES is very popular, but I didn’t hear so many good comments about their services.

But you can check al of them over here:
http://www.naces.org/members.htm

I will work on the TOEFL exam now, but will keep looking for information about the transcripts.

Regards,
Taciab

Sorry for my delay. I will try to give you some additional answers:

1) if i do the credit evaluation of my courses from wes(world education society), will this evaluation work for all universities in which i apply.

Every school has their own requirements. Some will noot even require you to send it out, but will evaluate it with their own staff.

2) under what section of transfer i will come ....international student transfer or national student transfer.

If you are a US Permanent Resident, and have your Green Card to prove it when you apply, then you will probably apply as a domestic transfer.

3)will i get any scholarship or aid on my toefl or sat score.

That is totally up to the university and every one is different. I will say that there are very few scholarships for transfer students.

4) and from your experience can you tell me what average time i will have to waste to work for all the courses for which i don't receive credits.

This totally depends on how many credits transfer to the US university.

5)i have my cpi for two years a little above 8. so is this cpi good for getting a transfer admission

If it is 8 out of 10, then yes, this would be a good average.

i too received a permanent residence this year.. i am starting my last year of bachelor of computer science. It is a 3 year course.

So if i transfer to the US after completing my BS here in India how many of my credits will get transfered over there?

What will i come under-> instate or out of state?

CAN I change my major from computer to business.?

When you mention "permanent residence", I am assuming you mean US Permanent Resident status. The actual status and the name of the card is "Resident Alien" and some refer to it as "Green Card".

It is very difficult to tell how many credits will transfer as that is up to the university. I can tell you that it is VERY unlikely that you will only have one year left, due to the difference in the educational systems and requirements for graduation. There are some schools that will accept the three degree as equivalent to a US Bachelors but you would have to search for them as there are not many.

Related to the resident/non-resident question, that again is up to the university and their policies. Even if they are willing to consider you as a resident, you usually need to be a resident in that state for a period of time before they will allow you to pay at the resident rate.

Jim
